Ozzy to Jones

"A Tale of Two Auditions" (also known as "Great Expectations") is the 10th episode of Season 7 of The Next Step and the 190th episode overall. It aired on March 11, 2020.[1]

Synopsis[]

A-Troupe moves in a new direction, while Summer puts herself before the team.[1]

Plot[]

Riley season 3 wtm i'll "I'll get to you when I get to you!" - The information meant to be put in this section is not yet available. As soon as the information becomes available, it will be added.

Trivia[]

  • This episode became available on BBC iPlayer on March 4, 2020, one week prior to its scheduled release on CBBC.
  • Kingston and Lily are in an on-off relationship.
  • Jones was a finalist in Season 12 of Dancemania, but had to withdraw due to an injury.
  • A-Troupe, Summer and Jones have all auditioned for Dancemania. Both A-Troupe and Summer are unaware of whether they made to to the next round, though Jones alludes to the fact that he has already been accepted.
  • Emily and Nick have been attending a conflict resolution seminar.
  • This episode takes place 2 weeks after Amy and Finn start dating in "The Bicycle Thief".
  • Amy suspects that Piper has feelings for Finn.
  • Dancemania calls Amy to inform A-Troupe about the results of the audition. Seeing as Summer is dance captain, it is more likely that they would call her. However, due to Summer no longer auditioning with A-Troupe and Heath replacing her, it appears that Summer also updated the contact information for the application with Amy's phone number.
  • This is the first time in any season of The Next Step, a dance battle took place in a juice bar/cafe.

Continuity[]

  • Piper refers to Amy and Henry's relationship history in Season 6.
  • Richelle mentions that Ozzy gets into a lot of dance battles, possibly alluding to the dance battle between Elliot and Ozzy which occurred in "Never Been Picked" since this is the only other dance battle that Ozzy participated in of which Richelle is aware of.
    • This is Ozzy's fourth dance battle within the show: the first being against Elliot, the second against Kingston, the third against Heath and the fourth against Jones (which occurs in this episode).
    • A trend in these dance battles is that Ozzy often battles dancers who are better than him, and subsequently loses and doubts his dancing ability.
  • Richelle mentions that Ozzy has always been there for her. She is most likely referring to Ozzy voting for her to be dance captain in "Stand and Deliver" and to him helping her through her break-up with Elliot in "And Then There Were Three".
  • The black jacket with a little bit of white on it that Kingston is wearing is identical to what Henry wore in "Little Big Lies".

Errors[]

  • It seems improbable that Jones was able to legally compete on season 12 of Dancemania as Jones competed at Regionals with Encore[2] and professional dancers are not allowed to compete at Absolute Dance competitions, as first stated in "Brave New World". It is possible that Season 12 of Dancemania happened in between Season 6 and Season 7, but that would mean that only a few weeks passed between the end of Season 12 and the audition process for Season 13.
    • Furthermore it is stated that Jones' injury was a broken bone. If Dancemania: Season 12 happened within weeks of Season 13, it seems extremely unlikely Jones would be able to dance properly without restraints or the risk of permanent injury, considering the healing process for a broken bone can take between 2-3 months.

Cultural References []

  • The title of the episode alludes to a song called "A Tale of Two Cities" by J. Cole and the classic novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and is the second episode to do so.
  • The other title of this episode refers to a song of the same name on Songs from The Next Step: Season 5 and another novel by Charles Dickens, Great Expectations.
