The 17th Annual Absolute Dance Internationals is set in Season 3 from "Welcome to Miami" to "How It Ends." It takes place in Miami, Florida at the Adrienne Arsht Center, Ziff Ballet Opera House and Knight Concert Hall during 2015.

The SNR Network coverage of the event is hosted by Ashley Leggat and Chuck Anderson.

The winner is The Next Step Dance Studio.

History

Before the actual competition commences, an exchange program takes place in which a dancer from each team that is competing travels to another team's country in order to learn about their culture.

Information about the competition is sent sporadically to the teams by way of letters. This is to ensure that the teams are ready for anything that comes their way.

160 teams compete in this competition, although not all of the teams are revealed.

Rules

To ensure that the teams are ready for anything, the information is disclosed individually and at different intervals in time before the competition in the form of letters. The rules are as follows:

  • All teams must have a Dance Captain.
  • All teams must have only 10 dancers, but are permitted to have 2 alternates.
  • Teams must have:
    • A female soloist
    • A male soloist
    • A 2-7 person dance
    • A 5 person dance
    • A semi-finals routine
    • A finals routine
    • A duet (as a tie-breaker)

Rounds

Male solo round

This round is not an elimination one. Instead, the team of whomever wins the overall title of Mister Internationals Soloist gets a five-point advantage over the other teams, which can only be used once.[3]

Female solo round

This round is not an elimination one. Instead, the team of whomever wins the overall title of Miss Internationals Soloist gets a five-point advantage over the other teams, which can only be used once.[3]

Miss Internationals Soloist: Ella of Summerford School of Dance

4-Country dance

A dancer from each team is picked with them being randomly grouped together in fours to create a routine. Only 16 teams (the top four groups) qualify to the next round.[1]

2-7 Person dance

This dance must be done blindfolded. There are four spotters situated at the edge of the stage; if a dancer goes too far to the edge, their team will be disqualified. Only 8 teams qualify to the next round.[4]

"Music Mystery" Round: Turning Competition/5 Person Dance

All dances must be done to the song "Shining Lights." In order to decide how much time each team has to reconstruct their dance to this song, a preliminary turning competition takes place; the winner's team goes last and is therefore granted the most time to practice, while the loser's team must perform first without having heard the song. 4 teams qualify to the next round.[5]

Semi-finals

This round is without twists. After this round, only 2 teams qualify to the next.

Finals

This round is without twists. It determines the winner of the competition unless there is a tie. In such a case, a tiebreaker will ensue. After the finals, The Next Step and Stockholm Dansteater tie; The Next Step originally wins with 97 to 92 points, but with Stockholm Dansteater's five point advantage, the teams tie. This is the first time that such an instance has happened in Internationals history.[6]

Duets

The duet round is only used as a tiebreaker. After the duets, The Next Step is deemed the winner of the 17th annual Absolute Dance Internationals championship.[6]
