Seeing as how bubbly and friendly Amy is, she has quickly made several meaningful relationships while on the show.

Relatives[]

Amy's little sister[]

Amy has a little sister. The extent of their relationship is unknown, although it implied that she often steals Amy's soap.[1]

Gale[]

Dlh gail hugs amy

Amy uncomfortably hugs her mother.

Gale is Amy's overprotective mother who decides to become more involved in her dance life after A-Troupe's Regionals loss[2] and whom Amy has never had the best relationship with.[3]

Seeing as Gale is a failed professional dancer, Amy finds it extremely hard to please her and even lies about being on A-Troupe, when she is actually on TNS West. Amy appears consistently frustrated with her mother, but never speaks badly of or to her.

When Gale finds out that Amy isn't on A-Troupe and Amy is consequently pulled out of the studio, Amy barely objects to her mother's decision, almost as though she fears her.[4] Although Amy displays this lack of objection once more in auditioning for Gemini per her mother's wishes,[5] an inkling of defiance emerges when Amy ditches Gemini's rehearsal to hide in The Next Step's locker room. Amy is initially extremely wary of confronting her mother about her feelings, especially since she allegedly never listens to her, but does so upon Piper's advice.[3]

For the first time, Amy is able to tell Gale how she feels, with Gale actually listening to her. Amy is able to make a case compelling enough to cause Gale agree to her staying at the studio. With this turn of events, Amy predicts the improvement of their relationship.[3]

Following the improvement of Amy and Gale's relationship, Gale does not have as much involvement in Amy's dance career, not even when Amy joins AcroNation[6] or when she rejoins The Next Step.[7] However, after The Next Step competes and is eventually disqualified from Dancemania, Gale subsequently puts pressure on Amy to audition for the Manhattan Institute of Drama and Dance.[8] While it might initially appear to be one of Amy's mother's old ways, Amy realizes soon afterwards that she genuinely does want to attend that school[9] and, after a successful showcase with Step Inside, Amy is accepted into the program.[10] It can be presumed that Gale is happy with Amy's decision, although she likely also misses her daughter, seeing as Amy is now living in New York.

Friends[]

Cassie[]

Cassie is the first person that Amy meets when she arrives at The Next Step Dance Studio. Amy excitedly introduces herself to Cassie, which begins their friendship.[11] Amy becomes a member of the Zero Percent Club with Cassie,[12] and eventually auditions for the qualifier trio with her.[13]

Amy tells Cassie that she is always there for her.

Amy is very supportive of Cassie, seen when she helps her with a history assignment and when she helps Cassie with her bullying problem in a simulation.[14][15]

When Amy realizes she loves LaTroy, Cassie is the only person that Amy confides in.[16]

After Cassie leaves The Next Step Dance Studio, it is assumed that Cassie remains her friend, although Amy is not as close to Cassie as before.

Piper[]

Piper becomes Amy's friend once they become members of The Zero Percent Club. Although they are good friends, they do not necessarily have the strongest bond.

Although, after Cassie and Sloane, leave The Next Step Dance Studio, Amy grows much closer to Piper and considers her to be her best friend.

After making Piper take part in her lie about her status at the studio and inadvertently getting her in trouble with Emily, Piper vows not to speak to her again until she tells her mother the truth.[17] Amy is distraught about Piper's subsequent coldness toward her, to the point that it brings her to tears. In fact, Amy explicitly says that she particularly values her friendship with Piper because she is the only close friend she has left.[18]

Piper and Amy's friendship remains strong even when Amy joins AcroNation and Piper is notably happy when Amy returns.[19] Their friendship hits a bump when Amy and Finn clash over Piper's friendship[20] and it is Amy and Finn starting a romantic relationship that wrecks havoc with the girls' friendship due to Finn eventually cheating on Amy with Piper.[21] Piper eventually tells Amy and their friendship temporarily dissolves, but they make up after Amy is able to get a new perspective from Henry.[22]

Their friendship remains strong after this, with Piper ultimately deciding to take James and Riley up on their offer to move in with them in New York,[8] partly because Amy is moving to New York to attend the Manhattan Institute of Drama and Dance, even though Finn will remain behind as part of Radiation Dance Crew.[10] This, coupled with the fact that Piper chooses Amy as her "phone a friend" in the Dancemania Vidcast games[23] and that without Amy's approval, Piper wouldn't have started dating Finn,[22] indicates that Piper and Amy's friendship is more important to both of them than their romantic relationships with boys.

Sloane[]

Sloane becomes Amy's friend upon her membership to the Zero Percent Club. Sloane quickly becomes one of Amy's closest friends.

Amy hugs Sloane upon making up with her.

Although, after Amy begins dating LaTroy, whom Sloane has a crush on, Amy admits that Sloane is "practically a stranger."[24] Amy is not only saddened by the severing of her relationship with Sloane, but feels responsible for it. Amy actively tries to reprise her relationship with Sloane and is consistently rejected. Finally, while cleaning the mirrors in the Rehearsal Room, Amy is able to reprise her relationship with Sloane, much to Amy's happiness.[25]

Although it is likely that Amy initially viewed Sloane differently LaTroy breaks up with her for Sloane,[26] her future implication that the two are still friends indicated otherwise.[4] This is confirmed when Sloane meets Amy and Piper in Neutral Grounds and they all hug, showing how happy they are at her visit.[27]

Summer[]

Amy and Summer have a decent friendship. Although Amy is disappointed when Summer gets front row and not her, Amy is not as antagonistic towards her as Richelle and Jacquie are, with the latter two trying to trick Summer into joining AcroNation.[28] Even when Summer and Henry start dating, Amy does not harbour any resentment towards Summer for dating her friend whom she once had romantic feelings for.[29] After Amy's return to A-Troupe, she goes out of her way to reassure Summer and Henry that she is happy for them and is supportive of their relationship.[30] After Summer and Henry break up and Amy and Henry start dating, similar to how Amy was supportive of their relationship, Summer does not hold any resentment towards Amy and Henry for dating.[22]

Love interests[]

Finn[]

Amy and Finn's relationship starts off extremely rocky. Both are best friends with Piper and subsequently have difficulty sharing her. However, after Amy realizes that she is jealous of Finn's close friendship with Piper, she comes to accept him as a good friend to Piper.[20]

After Amy and Finn successfully hang out one-on-one,[31] Finn asks Amy out on a date and they start dating.[32]

Despite Amy and Finn having a seemingly strong relationship, things start going downhill when Finn realizes that Piper has feelings for him and subsequently kisses her.[21] While Amy is still clueless about Finn cheating on her, Amy soon feels sad and disappointed that Finn does not understand her as well as Henry does. When Amy is disappointed to be missing out on a family camping trip due to the filming of Dancemania, Finn fails to understand the significance. Henry helps Finn plan a romantic date to make it up to Amy, but Amy uncovers the truth after seeing the butter-tart s'mores that Finn has made, a detail that Amy only told Henry.[33]

Amy is initially unaware that Finn cheated on her by kissing Piper and decides that, due to them wanting different things out of their relationship, that they are better off as friends.[34] She later describes her attraction to Finn as a "Finn-fatuation", but is understandably upset and furious when she finds out that Finn cheated on her.[22] After gaining a different perspective from Henry, Amy is able to move on and even encourage Piper and Finn to be together.[22]

Henry[]

Amy and Henry join The Next Step at the same time.[35] Their interaction is initially entirely friendship, especially since Amy is dating LaTroy and Henry is still hung up on Jacquie. After a year of being on A-Troupe together, their friendship has become much closer, to the point that they have inside jokes that even Piper, Amy's best friend, does not understand.[3]

Shortly after this, Amy and Henry's relationship takes a romantic turn when they almost kiss after working on a duet together.[36] Amy subsequently creates a prom for Henry after learning that he missed his due to the filming of the Regionals qualifier video. However, things start falling apart when Amy believes that Henry is not interested in her and subsequently accepts Ty's invitation to prom. Later, she learns that Henry does want to go with her to prom, but seeing as she has already accepted Ty's invitation, she turns down Henry's invitation.[37]

Amy and Henry's attempt at a romantic relationship continues to go down from there, especially after Henry sees Amy kissing Ty. In the end, Amy accepts a date with Ty and Henry subsequently starts a romantic relationship with Summer.[6]

After Amy's romantic relationship with Ty fails, she eventually develops romantic feelings for Henry again.[38] Despite this, she believes that she is over him when she rejoins A-Troupe and tells Henry and Summer that she is happy for them.[30]

Amy eventually starts a romantic relationship with Finn, but resumes a strong friendship with Henry.[32]

After discovering that Finn cheated on her with Piper, Amy is understandably upset and helps Henry choreograph a dance for Dancemania in order to distract herself from her problems. Henry helps her come to terms with the Finn-Piper scandal, by deeming it a "moment" and comparing it to their moment in the parking lot when they almost kissed. Upon realizing that she still has feelings for Henry, Amy gives Finn and Piper her blessing to date and kisses Henry, starting a relationship with him at last.[22]

Despite their relationship going well, it ends due to Henry's family moving up north and no longer being a member of The Next Step. Amy is sad after their break-up and is determined to focus on dance instead of boys[39], thus indicating that her relationship with Henry meant more to her than most of her other romantic relationships, seeing as it took a few days and/or weeks for her to get over Finn[22] and Ty respectively.[38]

LaTroy[]

Amy tries to help LaTroy with the combo.

Amy grows closer to LaTroy upon helping him with a contemporary combo, which Amy admits was a nice experience.[40]

On LaTroy's birthday, Amy is an intrinsic part of LaTroy's surprise party and gets him a stuffed guinea pig as a present.[41]

The next time Amy is seen with LaTroy, she is performing a duet with him. Upon ending the dance, Amy bluntly tells LaTroy that they should do something about their chemistry, resulting in LaTroy asking her out. Amy is extremely excited about her date, explicitly confessing, "I'm actually going on a date with LaTroy. I have to tell Cassie! I have to tell everyone!." As promised, she practically tells the whole studio about the date, granting her her title as Miss Megaphone. Amy admits to LaTroy that she likes him after he says as much to her and dispels LaTroy's wariness about dating her due to Sloane's attraction to him, saying, "If you don't like Sloane that way... and you like me that way, you should date me," and thus willingly compromising her friendship with Sloane for the sake of her strong feelings for LaTroy.[42]

Amy is extremely saddened to discover that LaTroy will be leaving the studio to build a farmhouse with his dad, but is supportive of him, understanding that his relationship of his dad is important to salvage and that LaTroy won't forget about her.[43] Amy frequently gushes of LaTroy in his absence, and once goes out of her way to show LaTroy how much his peers miss him via video chat.[44] Amy is ecstatic when LaTroy returns. When seeing him, she immediately runs into his arms and is spun around. Amy wishes to hear everything that happened in his time away and is happy to hear that he reconnected with his dad.[45]

Amy tells LaTroy that she loves him.

Amy comes to fall in love with LaTroy, but is too scared to tell him and tells Cassie instead. Although, after she shares her first kiss with LaTroy, she can't help but admit how she feels to him. Amy is ecstatic when he says it back and kisses him once again.[16]

Amy is devastated when LaTroy breaks up with her, which devolves into anger to the point that she cannot even look at him.[26]

Although, Amy eventually becomes friends with LaTroy again and comes to terms with their ended relationship.[2]

Ty[]

After Amy, fills in for Simone in a trio with Ty and Adrian, Ty grows fond of Amy.[46] They attend prom together,[37] kiss and start dating,[6] but their relationship falls apart when Ty fails to understand that Amy's priority is dance, not him, prompting Amy to break up with him and suggest that they would be better as friends.[47]
