Frank van Keeken is the creator and the former executive producer of the The Next Step.
Career[]
Frank van Keeken is a credited producer, director, and screenwriter who is best known for Wingin' It (2010-2011), The Kids in the Hall (1993-1994), The Next Step (2013-ongoing), and Lost & Found Music Studios (2015-2017).[1]
At the Canadian Screen Awards in 2014, he won an award for Best Cross-Platform Project: Children's and Youth for The Next Step. In addition, he won the award for Best Writing in a Children's or Youth Program or Series for Wingin' It in 2013.[1]
Despite his great contribution to The Next Step, in addition to being responsible for its creation, van Keeken was removed as executive producer of the show after Season 4.[2]
More recently, van Keeken has created The New Step's companion show, the gymnastics drama My Perfect Landing (2020), which stars Jordan Clark (Giselle) as homeroom teacher/gymnastics coach Miss Allister; and his daughter Francesca as Rachel Osbourne, a character who is very similar to Margie from The Next Step. Van Keeken himself also makes an appearance as a bus driver in the show's penultimate episode "Hillside, Part 1".
Personal life[]
Frank's daughter Francesca plays Margie,[3] while his other daughter Chloe is a former crew member of The Next Step.
