Josh has a few meaningful relationships.

Family

Adam

Adam is Josh's younger brother with whom he has a love-hate relationship.

Josh is very supportive of Adam's hockey-related endeavours, but is clearly irritated by his showy nature, especially in light of Adam's apparent condescension toward his dancing. This irritation, mixed with his feelings of invalidation due to his parents seeing Adam's endeavours as more meaningful, only grows when it appears as though he will have to leave the studio because of Adam joining the Springfield Coyotes.[1]

Josh is nonetheless empathetic of Adam, exemplifying clear pity for Adam when he is kicked off of the Springfield Coyotes and trying to cheer him up through dancing.[2] He continues to motivate his brother and readily attends his first single A hockey game.[3]

Friends

Piper

Josh initially befriends Piper while on TNS East with her,[4] but grows closer to her after the merge. Josh creates a potential concept for the qualifier video with Piper and confides in her about missing the country.[3] Josh continues to spend time with her, clearly appreciating her company and expressing thankfulness for her presence.

Although, Josh solely views Piper as a very close friend, seen through his shocked reaction when Piper reveals her romantic feelings for him. While Josh is grateful for Piper's friendship, he is reluctant to speak to her thereafter, having seen her reaction to his rejection.[5]

Zara

Zara is the first person who Josh becomes close to on TNS East, which is ignited by a dance-off. Josh is complimentary of Zara's dancing and confesses that he loves having her around.[6]

Josh expresses concern for Zara when she arrives late for practice, especially after she claims that her parents had a flat tire; Josh confesses that he knows Zara takes the bus, exemplifying a level of knowledge about her. He is the sole person who Zara confides in about her status as a mathlete, which he is amazed by. Josh is also the only person to find out that Zara's math quarter final and the dance battle conflict.[7] Despite Zara's wishes, Josh reveals this to Emily, for the benefit of both the team and Zara.[8]

Josh continues to maintain a healthy friendship with Zara.
