Lyrical dance, usually referred to as lyrical, is a dance style that is frequently performed on The Next Step.
History[]
Lyrical dance originated in Russia in the early twentieth century. It became a popular dance style in the 1970s where it was often deemed a subgenre of jazz dance, with the defining characteristics of having classical ballet technique and telling a story.[1]
Lyrical is occasionally defined as a combination of techniques from jazz, ballet and contemporary. As implied by its name, lyrical is set to songs with lyrics, which the dancer connects to with the dance.[2]
