TNS West (short for The Next Step West[1]) is the former subdivision of The Next Step Dance Studio in Season 5 that is led by Michelle. Their rival is TNS East. The team is defunct after merging with TNS East.

History

Although Michelle makes it onto A-Troupe, she is unhappy with Emily's strict leadership and the absence of hip-hop and breakdancers on her team. Therefore, Michelle decides to form her own troupe, which is validated by Kate.[2]

Michelle enlists the members of B-Troupe, who were cut from or did not make it onto A-Troupe, onto her competitive troupe. Michelle is left needing three more dancers, but is forbidden from getting dancers from the studio per Emily.[2]

Michelle eventually learns that only one team from The Next Step Dance Studio can compete at Regionals, leading to the introduction of a dance battle to determine the victor.[3] Although, for this dance battle to occur, TNS West would need its ten dancers. Michelle is eventually able to form a full team,[4] but the team loses the dance battle.[5]

After Michelle learns that Elliot is a paid professional dancer, she is adamant on having TNS East revoked as The Next Step's representative at Regionals. Michelle co-ordinates a sabotage of a TNS East practice in protest of the decision, although the plan backfires and Kate prohibits either troupe from competing at any competitive competition for the remainder of the season. [6]

Piper and Amy organize a merge of the two troupes and manage to convince Kate they should compete as a merged troupe. Briana and the other two unnamed dancers presumably think that merging is a bad idea, so do not make it onto the merged troupe. From this moment, TNS West is a defunct troupe.[7]

Description

Since TNS West is formed independently from TNS East, it is deemed the less legitimate troupe and does not get the same funding or resources that TNS East does.[1] This also stems from TNS West's more laid-back nature; most of the troupe's members are hip-hop and breakdancers and there are very few rules governing the troupe.
