"Ty'd to You" is the 14th episode in Season 6 of The Next Step and the 168th episode overall. It aired on March 2, 2019. It is the mid-season premiere and the first episode of Season 6.5.

Synopsis

"As Michelle and Emily deal with a troubling revelation about Regionals, family and friendships face new challenges."

Plot

In Studio A, A-Troupe is performing a group dance to "Animals", while Emily and Michelle watch from the office. As the A-Troupers dance, they reminisce about everything that has happened recently, including Summer losing to Lily at the Absolute Dance WildStylz solo competition, Amy transferring to AcroNation and being replaced by Davis, Miss Angela's time at the studio, Piper's problems with anxiety, Ozzy's dance battle against Elliot, and Henry and Amy's unresolved feelings for each other. Noah confesses that they will all have to work extremely hard if they want to win Regionals. As the dance ends, Michelle and Emily discuss the fact that Noah is too old to compete in the Intermediate Advanced Division at Regionals, and debate whether or not they would have a better chance of winning if they took him off the team.

Emily and Michelle call Noah into the office, hoping to find out his plans for the future - as if he is considering leaving the studio anyway, it will make their decision much easier. However, as they begin prodding him, Noah assumes that they are paranoid about other dancers leaving the team after losing Amy - so much to their dismay, he emphatically assures them that he has no intention of leaving The Next Step Dance Studio.

Davis and Jacquie are sitting with their father in Shakes & Ladders, arguing over which genre they should choose for their family movie night. As they attempt to get their father to weigh in, he comments on how glad he is that they are dancing at the same studio, and begins reminiscing about when they were little, much to their embarrassment; anticipating that he will soon dig out their baby pictures, the two quickly leave for rehearsal.

In Studio 1, Thalia is talking to Simone in the office. Amy is worried by the intensity of the discussion, and hopes that nothing is wrong. Simone soon brings her in, and Thalia reveals that the Regionals format has changed - the main competition is divided into three categories: ballet, contemporary and hip-hop. Amy swiftly notes that there is no acro category, which Thalia affirms. She then informs Amy that since she is the most well-rounded dancer on their team, she will be the focus of all three of their main routines. Amy is delighted, and confesses that this is exactly why she transferred to AcroNation; her talents are finally being recognised. Amy, Simone and Thalia cross into the studio to work on their routines; Amy notes that she has gone from being featured in no dances to being featured in all of them, and confesses that she can't let AcroNation down.

In Studio A, Jacquie is taking Davis through the choreography for Regionals. Soon enough, they disagree about whether or not it should be changed, which devolves into an argument about them dancing at the same studio. Meanwhile, Kenzie enters behind them, and instantly attempts to leave after seeing the tension - but Jacquie notices her before she reaches the door, and pulls her into the discussion. Although Kenzie takes Jacquie's side, she quickly recognises that Davis will never learn the choreography in time if Jacquie is the one teaching her, and offers to help - though she confesses that she is wary of coming between two sisters.

In Shakes & Ladders, Henry, Finn, Kingston and Ozzy are attempting to play Crokinole, but to the frustration of the others, Henry repeatedly interrupts the game to gush about Amy. Eventually, Finn recommends that he just ask her out, but Henry shoots this down, as he believes things have become too complicated. However, after the boys plead with him to at least think about it, he decides that he needs to stop waiting for the right time to make a move. At that moment, Amy appears, and at the boys' prompting, Henry approaches her; although she has to leave almost instantly, she asks if they can talk later. Henry agrees, as although he feels ready to ask her out, he wants the chance to do it properly.

In Studio 1, AcroNation is rehearsing one of their Regionals routines with Thalia. After a while, she calls a break, and Ty asks Amy if she can help him; he confesses that after spending so much time only practising acro, he is struggling to adjust to doing so many different styles. Amy happily obliges, and confesses that she enjoys spending time with Ty.

Meanwhile, Henry is considering how he will reveal his feelings to Amy. He runs through his confession several times in front of Finn, Kingston and Ozzy, and enthused by their positive reaction, he decides that he is finally ready to ask Amy on a date.

In Studio A, Kenzie, Jacquie and Davis are still working through the choreography. Davis confesses that the rehearsal has gone much better since Kenzie got there, and emboldened by her open-mindedness, she suggests making a change to the routine. Jacquie is appalled that Davis wants to change pre-existing choreography when she is new to the studio - but to her surprise, Kenzie likes the changes, and suggests that they be implemented. Insulted, Jacquie pronounces that they will clearly get along fine without her, and leaves to rehearse alone. Although she is quick to condemn Jacquie’s behaviour and does not attempt to stop her, Davis confesses how sad she is that her sister doesn’t want to work with her.

Having decided to stay late, Amy is helping Ty work on his fouettés in Studio 1. As she commends him after he performs the turn successfully, the two are drawn towards each other, and eventually lean in for a kiss - just as Henry walks into the studio to find Amy. He instantly leaves, confessing dejectedly that their “moment” must have meant more to him than her. Amy is alarmed, and confesses how confused she is - although she still likes Henry, she now likes Ty as well, and she isn't sure what to do.

Having changed out of her dance clothes, Jacquie returns to Studio A with her father, only to find Kenzie and Davis still rehearsing. When she asks Davis why she hasn't changed, she reveals that she wants to stay there with Kenzie, despite knowing she will miss their movie night. Jacquie attempts to convince their father to get Davis to leave with them, but pleased that she has made a friend, he sides with Davis, forcing Jacquie to give in. She confesses that although she and Davis are competitive when dancing together, they always get along at home, and that now they are dancing at the same place, the boundaries are becoming hazy.

Henry is sitting morosely in Shakes & Ladders, and confesses that he doesn't know where he stands with Amy anymore. Amy then enters, and attempts to explain herself, but Henry instantly shuts her down. She claims that he can't be angry with her, as things are not official between them and he has never tried to change that; Henry retorts that if she really cared about him, she would have held out for him instead of turning her attentions towards Ty, which makes Amy point out that he did the same thing with Summer. Henry defeatedly asks what this means about their time in the parking lot - and Amy merely pronounces that their "moment" has passed. She leaves Henry sitting in Shakes & Ladders, and confesses how unfair it is that everything has become so complicated.

Michelle and Emily have once again called Noah into the office, but are still reluctant to tell him why they need to speak to him. He breaks the silence by noting that they must have a serious problem; Michelle concurs, and attempts to soften the revelation by telling him about how important he is to the team - but Emily interrupts, and bluntly informs Noah that because he is eighteen, they will have to compete in a higher age division at Regionals, but if he wasn't on the team, they would be able to stay in the lower one. Noah hesitantly asks what they are planning to do, and Emily reveals that they have decided to leave it up to him. Noah confesses that although he would never abandon the team, he couldn't bear to be the reason they lose Regionals, and he isn't sure what he should do.

In Studio A, Henry is dancing alone in attempt to clear his head, while Amy does the same thing in Studio 1. As they dance, Ty enters Studio 1 and Summer enters Studio A, and both begin watching the respective solos in each studio. As the song ends, Amy confesses that she was sad at the thought of never dancing with Henry again when she joined AcroNation, but she is now relieved - while Henry confesses that he has to move on from Amy. Ty and Summer simultaneously approach them, and ask them if they want to spend time together; Amy and Henry both agree. Amy confesses that it is good to know exactly where she stands with both Henry and Ty, while Henry confesses that Summer is always there for him, and there is something special about her.

• This episode became available on BBC iPlayer on September 10, 2018, one week prior to its scheduled release on CBBC.
• The opening sequence has changed to add Davis.
• This year's Regionals is divided into four rounds: hip-hop, contemporary, ballet and the finals.
  • The hip-hop and contemporary rounds require a small group dance, the ballet round requires a duet, and the finals require a ten-person dance.
  • Amy will be featured in all of AcroNation's routines.
• Amy and Ty have had their first kiss.
• Henry and Amy no longer have feelings for each other.

• The purple shorts that Summer wears in this episode are identical to a pair that Amy wears in Season 5.
• Kingston complaining that Henry constantly talks about Amy is reminiscent of him complaining that he always talks about Jacquie in "No Good Deed".
• Jacquie asking Davis what she is still doing in her dance clothes is reminiscent of Skylar asking Cierra a similar question in "Today I'm Getting Over You".
• Henry saying that his "moment" with Amy must have "meant more to her than it did to [him]" is reminiscent of Amy saying the same thing about him in "Amy's Prom Has Got It Goin' On".
